At our February 23rd meeting, we watched a wonderful video by Kathy Koch called How Am I Smart: Multiple Intelligences. Both this video and her book have been added to our MOPS library.
In her video she discusses how indentity controls behavior, so if we are told were are not smart, we believe we are not smart. If we are told we are smart, we will be smart.
The best question to ask is not "How Smart am I?" but "How am I smart?"
There are 5 core needs we all have:
1. Security: (Who can I trust?)- if understand how they are smart, they learn to trust more.
2. Identity: (Who am I?)- identity controls behavior
3. Belonging:
4. Purpose: (Why am I alive?)-rooted in who am I
5. Competence: (What do I do well?)
There are 8 intelligences she discusses:
Word, logic, picture, music, nature, body, people and self.
Once an intelligence is awakened it can be improved, expanded, amplified, strengthened, focused and then trained.
Summary of 8 intelligences:
Word Smart (read, write, speak and listen)
-Think with words
-When excited talk or write
Logic Smart
-Think with questions
-When excited ask more questions
Music Smart:
-Think wiht rhythym, melodies
-When excited "make music"
Body Smart:
